BDSM Guide

Looking for BDSM toys? Then read our handy introduction first to help find the right ones for you!

What is BDSM?

The acronym BDSM generally stands for bondage and discipline, sadism and masochism, although dominance and submission are often substituted. BDSM activities are far and wide reaching, and in a lot of cases don't actually result in sexual release. The desire to be dominated and restrained, or indeed to be the dominant partner, is often much more satisfying than a physical orgasm.

Bondage and restraint is one of the main BDSM activities, along with dominance and discipline, submission, sexual role-playing, fetishism, sadomasochism and power play. While those on the outside may view BDSM as some kind of horrific sexual abuse, all people practicing BDSM give their full consent and participate in a safe environment where the 'safe, sane and consensual' philosophy is adhered too.

It is also common practice to agree upon and use a safety word throughout each session, ensuring that proceedings can be stopped by all when the word 'no' might otherwise be used in role-playing to heighten the submissive's experience of being dominated.

What are BDSM toys?

Basically, any sex toy that can be used to restrain, dominate or inflict varying degrees of pleasure, pressure and pain upon a willing partner. It all depends on what aspect of BDSM you are trying out, who is in the dominant seat and what they want to experience and what they want you to experience!

Types of BDSM toys

As we said above, depending on your chosen BDSM activity there's a sex toy waiting for you! Bondage Kits are a great introduction to the art of bondage for newcomers, as are Bondage Ropes and Bondage Tapes. Other great toys for restraint include Handcuffs, Sportsheets Restraint Kits and the Pipe Dream Position Master.

If you want to be dominated, why not ask your lover to buy a Whip or Paddle to punish you with? We love the Spartacus Leather Hand Tip Crop and the Whipsmart Lip Love Paddle. You can also take your submissive role to the next level by wearing a Ball Gag, Cock Strap, Collar and Lead and Nipple Clamps - all attached to you by the master/mistress, of course!

Finally, if you've got some cash to splash and want to broaden the spectrum of toys in your BDSM dungeon, invest in a Sex Swing such as The Love Swing and the Fetish Fantasy Sex Harness, and finish off your room with a Cupid's Couch and Inflatable PVC Bondage Chair!
